Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Update For Samsung Galaxy S2 Delayed Once Again

After Enaget and other tens of websites enthusiastically announced that starting March 10th the Samsung Galaxy S II users will be able to officially upgrade their smartphones to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (according to Samsung Philippines), the South Korean-based company dismissed the news via Twitter, ruining the day for the owners of the “smartphone of the year 2011.”

As you probably know Samsung Galaxy S II comes pre-loaded with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and since the new Android 4.0 ICS have been announced in October 2011 at Unwrapping Ice Cream Sandwich even in Hong Kong all the Android enthusiasts want it installed on their smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy S2 is an Android-powered smartphone introduced by the South Korea-based company in February 2011 at Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona. Samsung’s flagship smartphone sports a dual-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A9 Exynos chipset, 1GB or RAM, 16GB or 32GB of internal storage (up to 32GB microSD supported), 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display with Gorilla Glass coating, 8 megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and 1080p full HD video recording capabilities and front-facing 2 megapixel camera for video calls. In terms of connectivity, Samsung Galaxy S2 comes with HSPA, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0 and microUSB 2.0.

As about the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich firmware update for Samsung Galaxy S II it comes with the new TouchWiz UI. Personally I’m not very fond of this user interface, but that’s just an biased opinion. It seems that the Android 4.0 update will first arrive on the unlocked terminals, thus the owners of the carrier-locked Samsung Galaxy S II handsets will have to wait a little bit more.

Anyway don’t get too enthusiastic about the matter, because Samsung announced via Twitter that the Android 4.0 ICS for Samsung Galaxy S2 release date announced by Samsung Philippines is not accurate. This story reminds me about the “official” announcements saying that Galaxy S will receive the Android 4.0 ICS update which were later dismissed by Samsung.
